INTRODUCTION

Jolanda Klopper

Born in 1974 at Wervershoof, the Netherlands.

After graduating in fashion design at 2000, AKI  University of art & design, Enschede, The Netherlands.

My expertise was mainly focused on outfits and their effect. My style, to put it briefly, is a combination of the 60s in solid materials, and then with a happy twist of Pippi Longstocking and a touch of surrealism.

My drawings were for support and my photography started as documentation of this whole process. But luckily everything has started to take on a life of its own.

About My Paintings

My paintings are inscriptions about participating in the eternal dance in the space-time continuum of the Cosmos. The eternal dance between the complementary energies, darkness and color, emptiness and creation, the straight and the round. My paintings are composed primarily of the symbolism associated with runic writing, combined with mathematical patterns and wisdom from a bygone era. With a contemporary approach and a little magic.

About my fashion Projects

My work  takes place in a lonely dilapidated world. It is a representation of reality with a surreal twist. As a result, my reality deviates slightly from the conventional, familiar foundation. I let little edges of the usual crumble away, and the subjects that appeal to me have been transformed a bit by me.

I look for the middle ground between the symbiotic play between absurd and common, I express myself roughly in a subtle way and I have a handle on the balance between a well-considered sense of purity and humor.

My work retains an inner strength because it is free from decadence. I use ancient symbols as a theme such as the snake biting its tail, something that represents the transformation of humanity.

I work with whatever is available. I implement a  free attitude in my work, which is probably why it affects the subconscious in many areas. The color palette of my designed clothing style is a combination of something earthy and something grim, as well as my hopes for the future combined with my view on contemporary world events.

After I graduated from the AKI Art Academy, majoring in fashion design, I burned all my work produced at the academy in order to be able to develop my own style with a clean slate, without the interference of teachers. This has grown into this versatile work with my very own stamp.
